In this session, Battersea’s Celebrity Manager will be giving tips and guidance on how to engage with celebrities to help raise awareness of your rescue and ways in which they can support you.
Educating prospective and existing dog owners on topics such as responsible ownership has never been more important and in this session the Academy team will be answering questions on how to establish and run an effective education programme.
Ahead of Volunteers’ Week in June, Battersea’s Volunteering Manager will be answering questions on how to recruit and retain volunteers and the benefits that they can bring to an organisation.
Battersea’s Dog Intake team will be answering questions from rescues on how to effectively manage the dog intake process.
In this session, colleagues from the cattery, rehoming & welfare and canine behaviour & training teams will give tips on how they manage and prioritise their days to work through an ever-increasing to-do list.

Many rescues and rehoming organisations are reliant on volunteers who can offer foster homes. This month, Fostering Manager, Julia Camara, will be in the hot seat to answer your questions on how to set up a scheme, recruit and retain foster carers.
Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Nikki Draper joins us this month, to take your questions around parvo virus and the steps you can take both to prevent and when presented with this potentially fatal virus.
This month, we want to hear from you! We’ll be sharing news on the latest round of grants funding, but we also want your input into the additional programmes and webinars that you would like the Academy to offer.
Battersea’s Head of Public Affairs, Michael Webb has a wealth of experience in working with and lobbying politicians and other officials. He’ll offer tips on how you can engage with this audience, as well as speaking about campaigns that you can support to bring about positive change for the sector.
It’s three years since the Data Protection Act became law, but many individuals and small organisations admit to still not fully understanding the regulations. Debbie Smith, Compliance Manager at Battersea will be on hand to answer your questions and provide guidance around the subject.
Jo Puzzo, Feline Welfare Manager is the expert this month and will be taking questions about how to best prepare for kitten season and also discussing the potentially lethal effect of some plants for cats and kittens.

The Battersea Academy is delighted to welcome Trevor Cooper, a leading authority on dog law in the UK to this session. Trevor, a solicitor with nearly 25 years’ experience of acting for dog owners in civil and criminal cases, will take questions on existing laws, as well as new legislation which is currently working its way through Parliament.

Ensuring the mental health and wellbeing of staff and volunteers has never been as important as it is in 2020. We will be joined by two of Battersea’s mental health first aiders who will offer advice on how to take care of yourself and also support colleagues and volunteers.
